When we first heard Apple’s claims at WWDC 2009 that the new iPhone 3GS was 2x faster, we all thought that Apple were extending the truth. AnandTech thought that they would look in to this to see if the claim is true. Well it seems as if Apple were not joking, meaning that the iPhone 3G S could now compete with the likes of the Sony PSP and the Nintendo DS.
Apple has shown that they are now very serious about portable gaming, which is why they felt the need to up the power of the iPhone. Have they done enough though to compete in this competitive market. We will have to wait until June 19 to get the answer.
According to AnandTech’s report, the iPhone 3G S is fast but not as fast and you would think. The Smartphone uses a PowerVR SGX at 200 MHz This speed means that it will push out 7 million triangles per second, with a fill rate of 250 million pixels per second.
According to Extreme Tech, the Sony PSP handheld pushes out 33 million triangles per second, and has a fill rate of 664 million pixels per second.
