Tata Motors have for a while now been wanting to introduce its low-cost Nano to the United States. Now would be the perfect time to do so, as we aim to find ways to reduce travel costs in this current global recession. Once the Tata Nano hits the U.S. shores, these cheap vehicles will sell fast, and for good reason.
There are a number of changes needed on the current Tata Nano in order for it to meet United States safety and emissions requirements, and the Indian automaker already has a solution for this. The New York Times says that all it would take is a call to Fiat-Chrysler.
If Tata did consult with Fiat-Chrysler over a possible union, then this could get the Nano ready for the U.S much quicker than they hope. Fiat and Tata already collaborate with each other; both automakers share a factory in India. This is where Tata works on the pickup truck that the Italian automaker will sell under its own name.
