Xbox 360′s with RROD: pack things yourself from now on

Bad news for all of you who are still having hardware problems with your Xbox 360 console, as Microsoft have confirmed recently that they will no longer be providing customers with pre-paid shipping boxes.

Microsoft confirmed the news to Joystiq, with the company stating that the policy has stopped due to “an effort to expedite the repair process.”

To clarify the new procedure, they stated: “Customers can now ship their consoles themselves using an e-label provided by Microsoft and do not need to wait for an empty box to be shipped to them.”

So there we have it, you’ll now have to pay for your own shipping box. Looks like Microsoft have grown tired with the overwhelming amount of consoles coming in, I guess it all adds up.

    Does the e-label also cover the shipping cost, or can you claim that back afterwards? Anyway, I think it’s about time the RROD issue was a thing of the past, but here we are three years later and still the tales of woe drag on. Tsk tsk tsk Microsoft, what have you done….

    It is pretty much a thing of the past but it will live on in the comments of PS3 fanboys for years to come, unlike the PS2′s disc read error fault that Sony didn’t cover with a 3 year warranty, which they will do there best to forget, denie, or play down.

    Oh well, i had mine replaced far to many times and i have a box anyway, as with mosot xbox 360 owners, (shame its a great machine when it works, and I use it more than my PS3 or Wii)

    if i get RROD i will just fix it myself. i have the lame halo 3 edition with a small 20 gig hard drive. it would give me a reason to upgrade to a bigger HD if for some reason i failed at fixing it. either way i am not paying satansoft to fix it, nor will i pay to ship it. ill take my chances, pay 150 for them to fix it, spend money to ship it, wait for it to ship back to see if they fixed it right, or just pay 199 for an arcade version since i have a HD already and i wouldnt have to wait…plus i would spend a whol $10 to see if i could fix it myself…kind of an easy desicion for me in my position.
