Samsung’s e-paper prototype that plays video
By: Peter Chubb | June 10, 2009
Samsung Electronics LCD Business Unit has been showing off its 10.2-inch-paper prototype panel at SID Display Week 2009. This prototype combines electronic paper and video display technology; the user will have the choice to switch between these two modes.
The Samsung e-paper device has an active matrix panel, which has been developed by utilizing a form of cholesteric liquid crystal for its image display technology. Tech On explains that the main features of this prototype are its display mode, as it can switch from “memory mode”; this is so that you can operate the panel as e-paper.
Selecting the “dynamic mode” will allow you to display moving images. The panel has 320 x RGB x 240 pixels; this is capable of displaying 64 colors. Looking at the prototype, it shows that Samsung have a lot of work to do, as there are many improvements still needed on the device.
