PS3 Motion Sensitive Controller and Wii Owners

By: Alan Ng | June 10, 2009 | 5 Comments

Andrew House, the new President and CEO of Sony Computer Entertainment Europe has revealed in an interview that he ‘expects’ Nintendo Wii owners to switch to the Playstation 3 console within the next couple of years, in light of the new PS3 motion sensing capabilities.

That’s according to Kombo, who have said that Andrew House revealed the statement in an interview with Edge-online.

In an extract taken from the interview, House explains:

”There are a few things that drive this to a significantly longer than ten-year lifecycle for me. One is the traditional market dynamic that as prices come down you build down and out through the pyramid to a new type of consumer, and the motion controller we showed yesterday – and gave a firm release date on – changes the experience and allows us to bring in a new audience.”

What a load old tosh. The mums and non-gamers who bought a Wii won’t be buying a new console for a very long time, if ever again. Many of these people haven’t bought a game since getting their Wii and if they have, you can bet your life it was Wii Fit.

    never going to happen.
slippy sloppy you talk out of your arse i have 20 games on my wii and 12 wiiware games and 6 vc games, we play it nearly every day and the games get better and better.
no wii owner in their right mind would swap for a ps3 just for better graphics. its games that count and wii has shed loads of greats(and tonnes of crap too but just dont buy them!) that the ps3 will never have.
wiimotionplus looks to be more precise than ps3 glow sticks so never going to upgrade untill maybe this natal thing happens, has lots of good games, and works.(although thats an upgrade to 360 not ps3 lol)

Price-Wise, the Wii will probably be still leading with the people who are more “casual” gamers.
However; the motion controller is different than a Wii remote, it doesn’t only detect where you point, and what direction the Wiimote is facing.
The PS3′s motion sensing controller is more about getting precise arm movement reading, which is very well applied.
The Wiimotion Plus, is the close to the same thing as the PS3′s new motion sensing controller, but you have to think of it from a non-biased perspective. Both are good, but for different reasons.
The Wii is more of a family console, and that will probably never change, but with the Motion Sensing Controller, the hard-core gamers who like the whole motion sensing idea may switch towards the PS3, simply because, it has more power.
Again, just a speculation, I’m not trying to offend anybody. All systems are good for different reasons, that’s why there’s differentiation.
