New iPhone 3G S Hands-on

We mere mortals will have to wait until June 19 to get our hands on the new iPhone 3G S, but Future Stuff has managed to get a few minutes with the new handset. The brief hands-on of the device does point out that it was strange for Apple not to change the appearance of the phone.

Apple will launch the handset on the same day as the Nokia N97, so expect there to be a fair few posts about each handset on the day. The inside of the iPhone 3G S is where it all changes, from the camera down to the battery.

There are four major differences with the new handset, the first is the beefed up processor and hardware acceleration. Apple pointed out at WWDC that the new phone is twice as fast as the iPhone 3G, which was already fast.

The camera is the next feature to get an upgrade, gone is the old 2-megapixel, in its place is a 3-megapixel with autofocus and video recording. Voice control is the third major upgrade, Future Stuff feels that this new feature is just a gimmick, but if it works well, then I cannot wait to use it in my car with Bluetooth turned on.

The last new feature is the compass, not the best of features, but it all helps to make the iPhone 3G S the best phone from Apple so far.
