Mercedes S-Class ESF hybrid concept

If you were to look, at most of the safety features that appear in most road vehicles today, then chances are they were first used in the Mercedes-Benz S-Class. With this in mind, it was obvious that Mercedes were to test the next generation of safety features in the S-Class ESF hybrid concept.

The ESF 2009 Concept vehicle is based on the S400 Hybrid, Mercedes showing that Hybrid and safety can co-exist. The new car has a range of new airbags, there are new curtain airbags in between the seats, this means that you will not hit another passenger in an accident.

Autocar also reports that the Mercedes S-Class ESF hybrid concept has a unique giant airbag underneath the, this inflates in a crash causing friction and slowing the vehicle down. This is done by lifting the car at the front slightly to compensate for brake dive.

This could cause a problem with trying to steer out of a crash, but we would have thought that Mercedes know what they are doing.
