New Audi Cars: groundwork for entirely new line
Filed under: Autos

Audi is changing its thinking of the future and how it is developing the groundwork for a new way of building its cars. Audi’s future for its cars is lightweight, this will help to give its future hybrid and electric vehicles the best support, the lighter the more fuel efficient it will be.
According to AutoCar, the first example of this is the S5 from the test lab; is that it is 400 kg (880 pounds) lighter than a standard S5. The standard S5 uses a 354 hp V8, the test lab S5 is powered by a 230 hp four-cylinder, yet the lap times round the famous Ring is just 8 seconds than the V8 version.
The reduced weight is thanks to the use of a hybrid steel and aluminum body, which has been built over a spaceframe. Audi have declined to share with us what the spaceframe is composed of. Let us hope that we do not end up paying more for these new vehicles, it is nice to know that we have a car with all the latest technology, but we do not want to be paying more than we should for it.
