256 Players in PS3′s MAG: WIll it work?

By: Alan Ng | June 9, 2009 | 4 Comments

You all saw the video of MAG running for the first time at this year’s E3 event right? An article we have found discusses the idea of having 256 players online at the same time and debates whether it will work or not.

The article comes courtesy of Bitmob, who have put all the technical aspects of the game into perspective. The first question they answer is: Why 256 players and not any other number? Others topics include how lag will work (or won’t work) in the game and just how demanding it will be if everyone has Voice controls when playing.

Take a look at the article in full and let us know your impressions of MAG so far.

256 players in one game isnt so new. SOCOM Confrontatation Server held 256 players in a room broken into several games with of up to 32 players. It would appear to be easier running 256 players with voice in one game than 256 players broken into several (8-32) seperate games/maps simultaneously.

Yes Gi, although you’re somewhat right, try running a game with 256 players on the 360. It blow up in your face before hitting 150 guaranteed. And the idea of it being the point of the game is pretty new, innovative. And if that isn’t enough, it’s all good and well that you got 256 players in the same map on SOCOM but you still had to fit in that tiny ass map. I’m pretty sure the maps in this game will be much, much larger.
