No Sony PS3 Price Cut: Sales Lag Behind Xbox 360

It has been confirmed that Sony have no immediate plans to cut the price of the the Playstation 3 console. Sony’s Kazuo Hirai revealed the news at this year’s E3 event in Los Angeles.

As reported from Bloomberg, it had been widely speculated that Sony would use E3 to finally announce a price cut for the PS3, with sales of the console in the US trailing the Nintendo Wii and Xbox 360 by a considerable amount.

But Kazuo Hirai stated at E3: “We’re very happy with the price point that we have. We will move when we think it’s appropriate at some point in time.”

The news is not only going to disappoint gamers out there either, As Activison Blizzard have already spoken of their disappointment on Sony’s reluctance to announce a PS3 price cut.

They simply cannot afford to do it. Production costs of the PS3 make it very difficult for them.

Couple of points to pick you up on here…

Globally PS3 is outselling the 360, in Europe, Playstation brand is much stronger, and the PS3 is killing the 360 is Japan.

In the US, BOTH the PS3 and 360 are trailing the Wii by a “considerable amount.”, however 360 and PS3 sales are tracking pretty close.

This is nothing more than Xbot fanboy nonsense.

You know this isn’t fanboy driven, so just admit that maybe Sony have over-priced their console.

The problem Sony has is that their games aren’t selling consoles.

(YOU WANT THE TRUTH YOU CAN’T HANDLE THE TRUTH)ps3 is way to high in price it’s in 3rd place in world wide sales.sorry those are the facts not fanboy views.

    • Gamer says:

It looks to me like YOU are the fanboy. You can always spot the Sony fanboys, their ignorance shines through brightly.

    • Hugo says:

Mak, you’re wrong. As of 31 March, the Wii had sold 50 million units, the XBox 360 30 million units and the PS3 23 million units. These are the facts. Be precise. Also, it is a fact that the PS3 is too expensive. After 4 years of PS2, I decided to go for the XBox 360, instead of the PS3, solely because of the price.

    • Kwake says:

I would consider myself a pretty big “Xbot” fanboy, however, with the new line up of games comin to the ps3 I may consider buying one only if they drop the price tho.

my point being the high price of this system is killing them. Plus with the low prices on blu-ray players now that’s not a big selling point for them
