IPhone OS 3.0 Software Download: During WWDC 2009

Lets first point out that this is just a rumor that was submitted to PR news, its in no way officially confirmed by Apple, that would be later today at WWDC 2009 if it happens.
One PR user reported a tip that the iPhone OS 3.0 software would be released on June 8th 2009, and more importantly it should be available for download directly following Apple’s Worldwide Developers Conference.
They went on to say that they work for Apple corporate in California - apparently – and they recommend downloading the software at a certain time, which makes sense considering past download congestion.

IPhone OS 3.0 will be released on June 8th 2009. I work at Apple corporate in California. This software will be available for download directly following the conference. I recommend dowloading the software at 6:00 because that was the least congested download time last year.

Yeah i been waiting for this update. just wondering if i have a hacked iphone 2g or first gen.. is it ok to restore it back to factory setting then download the new firmware 3.0?
To answer your question: from what i have heard when i jailbroke my 1st gen was that its ok to return in to factory 2.1.1 and then install the 3.0 without problems

We have waited this long for the update, why didnt they just release it at midnight, why do we have to wait til after the conference? that does’nt make any sense to me. i guess im just antsy.

It will be released on June 17th according to Apple at the WWDC. Just wondering also if anyone knew if you can get the update right at midnight or do you have to wait till a certain time?
Answer for Matt:I though it would come out at midnight, so I got up extra early and went to iTunes, but it comes out at some time today.
i was reading on another message board and they said the last update was available at 6pm (1800) regardless what time zone you are in on June 17th. Not sure if this is true but just as a FYI.
