Intel: flash memory to boost performance

Intel are hoping to get a boost in performance with the aid of flash memory, the chip maker is planning to build the technology into its first chipset-on-a-chip architecture, they are also building it into their new multi-chip configurations.

This new architecture, which has been codenamed “Braidwood,” gets its extra performance by accelerating the I/O accesses; this is done by saving it to flash memory. Rob Crooke, vice president and general manager of Intel’s Business Client Group has been explaining it in more detail to Tech Blorg.

Crooke said that the technology will provide faster boot times and faster application launch, the result is a much faster and responsive system. This is now Intel’s second attempt at using flash memory to help speed up it applications on a chipset, but now it seems that Intel are more than ready for it.
