Apps Boom: Apple, Palm, RIM, Nokia and Microsoft

Cell phone applications have only seen a rise in popularity since the Apple iPhone offered apps through the iTunes App Store. Other companies such as Palm, RIM, Nokia and Microsoft wanted to get a piece of the Apple app boom, so have all launched their own app store service.

The market for apps is expanding quickly as Apple showed the world that these apps sell phones. This is also the reason why these other companies developed their own store to offer apps onto their handsets, but none will be able to match the success of the Apple iTunes App Store.

The New York Times have said that interest in apps will only get more popular after the iPhone gets its upgrade to iPhone 3.0 OS. Free apps are still very popular, but the average price people pay for their apps is 99 cents. The apps with a higher price tag are more for business mined people and those who want to play a better quality game.
