PS3’s PlayStation Eye vs Xbox 360’s Natal

If you were to ask anyone who attended E3 2009 what was the most memorable moment, then most of them would have to say Microsoft and Steven Spielberg announcing Project Natal for the Xbox 360. Sony did also announce their motion sensing gaming which will incorporate the use of the PlayStation Eye for the PS3.
Sony’s director of marketing John Holler has been talking to Gamasutra about its PlayStation Eye, saying that it is “more accurate and more precise” than the technology that will be used in Microsoft’s motion-sensing Project Natal. Although Microsoft’s system has full-body scanning capabilities, Holler states that it is reported to be suffering from “depth issues on the Z-axis.”
This however is hard to confirm, not until a third part gets to test the system, so maybe it is just Sony holding on to the hope that Project Natal will not prove as popular when it comes to adapting the technology on the Xbox 360 console.
There have also been other concerns with both these technologies, and that is that they will use more processor power. If this is true, this could bring a return to RROD, but that is only speculation at this time.

Natal looked incredible at first. However, the follow-up reports seems to make the Milo scene far more scripted than initially presumed. Finally, let’s look at the new Sony wand. It seems to lend itself well (more so) to gaming than the MS offering.
Both will ultimately suffer as they’re not a default item out-of-the-box with the console itself. Nintendo have hit the competition silly when it comes to motion-control (not that I own one but it’s pretty obvious).
I think Natal is very, very clever and actually might have better application outside of gaming. However, both Sony and MS will be testing the waters as their next console may well have a motion-based controller as standard (and I don’t mean the six-axis controller).
Any fool can see that M$ is just trying to get into the Wii market with another pathetic toy.
Sony is a true hardware company with years more exp than Mircolimp. The new Sony controls are decades ahead because of the exact reasons they advertised in the demo. The sphere allows for not just a little more control, it’ allows for actual gaming revolutions to occur. Also the trigers in the hand are a MUST for any Next Gen gamer. XBOX will probably be gone by 2015 as their gamers will get sick of waiting and paying for repairs. Maybe during that down time they can learn you don’t need a Wii or Natal to do yoga in your basement.

Can anyone tell me what PS3s response to the natal is? i’ve heard/seen the natal but i’m wondering about what Sony intend to do to get it back D: like.. i heard they announced something LIKE the natal.. but what was it? the EYE CAMERA? seriously, sounds like a cheep rio off idea from the EYE-TOY.. but i was wondering, does the Eye Camera ACT like a Natal? or is it like the Eye toy.. cause that would be really gay -.-
Sounds like you’ve missed the entire Sony Press Conference. They introduced their “wand” which a lot of people seem to think will suit gaming more than Project Natal (even though Natal was potentially more impressive from a technical standpoint).
Natal is buttonless (for now) - not good, but can read emotions which is very impressive. Whether this lends itself to gaming or not is yet to be seen.
Neither company will want to truly admit that they’re looking to Nintendo when coming out with such devices but it’s as true as can be.
It’s all about the games… always has been. More to the point, it’s about what we do with those games and that’s where Nintendo have won out so far (from a sales point-of-view). I don’t want a Wii but can’t help be impressed with what they’ve done. It’s just not for me. At the end of a hard day’s work I just want to sit down with a controller and play a game. Don’t fancy leaping about the living room and crashing into things/children/etc!
I feel suitably immersed anyway. Just get a big TV.
