Palm Pre Apps: A Closer Look

Palm Pre Apps: A Closer Look

By: Daniel Chubb | June 7, 2009 | 5 Comments

Apple has taken the world by storm with its App Store, and this is shown both in its popularity and profit margin. So just how can the other brands compete?

Services like Palm’s App Catalog have a long way to go to compete with Apple’s App Store, and show the Palm users they can offer what Apple has. Now that all the top phone brands are building application store fronts, it will be interesting to see what new competition will do.

PC World has taken a close look at Palm Pre Apps and Palm’s App Catalog. They have found that the offering is a bit sparse, but say that the service is well organized and has a lot of potential.

They also see Palm Pre owners having some great WebOS apps in the future. Have a read of the two-page article on PC World and let us know what you think of Palm Apps?

I own a Sprint dealership and am terminating it in favor of AT&T later this month.

I am a 20 year veteran of the cellular industry representing almost every carrier at one time or another. We were originally a Preferred Partner for Nextel prior to the merger. In my time, I have never been associated with a carrier that operates the way Sprint does. They are a dirty operation, deceptive and most significantly … they couldn’t care less about their customers. Don’t believe me? When was the last time you had a productive conversation with their customer care reps?

Exclusive dealers are designed to be a reflection of the carrier. We are to operate and act as parallel to them in every way. I refuse to run my company in such a way to mirror an operation like Sprint.

Do yourself a favor. Skip Sprint. Go with a winner like AT&T or Verizon. Sprint is a sinking ship.

I think it is the other way around the Authorized dealers are shady and should be put out of business! Go sell that crap AT&T offers.

    Whoa Bubba,

Put down the crack pipe. I’ve been with Sprint, as a customer for 10 years. I’ve seen the high, low and now trending high again customer service provided by Sprint. Before Dan Hesse came on board it was impossible to get anything accomplished. Their call centers were overseas and ill equipped to handle the needs of consumers here in the USA. That has all changed. Customer care for Sprint has turned 180 degrees in the RIGHT DIRECT. In fact. Customer care is SUPERB now. Throw in the fact Sprint’s network is tops bar none, why would you leave for a network (AT&T) that is so poor in handling data and drops calls at alarming rates? You laud Verizon. Please. Verizon is the most restrictive of all the carriers (They write agreements with phone manufacturers to lockout phone features in favor of Verizon’s pay to use features).

I understand you may have had issues with Sprint before but where have you been for the last two years??

  • Not a whiner

I’ve never had any trouble with Sprint customer service. And the store empoyees have generally been extremely knowledgeable.

Go grind your axe somewhere else. By definition (being a Sprint dealer) you are not a typical customer and it is fairly obvious you are not happy with them from a business standpoint. Stop confusing that with servicing the end-user.

Funny. For years I have been hearing customers come and go through my stores … different people at different times saying that X carrier sucks then the next one says that X carrier is superb.

I know what I am talking about here. I see things from a different perspective from you all. Many authorized dealers ARE shady. Sprint’s biggest ones are! Your comments are only proving my points further.

Never had trouble with customer service? So YOU’RE the one!

Sprint is a desperate company, doing things that desperate people do. Desperation makes you do things you don’t want to do.

Good luck with them. You’ll need it.
