Last night the Palm Pre went on sale in Sprint stores for $200, after a $100 mail-in rebate. The launch was nothing like the Apple iPhone release; there were no campers or long lines.
This did not stop a few early shoppers. Wired.com report that some early birds were proud to be one of the first to get a Palm Pre in Sprint’s Palo Alto store, California.
So just how will the Palm Pre stack up against the new iPhone in 2009 and Blackberry Smartphone’s? The CEO of Sprint believes that the Pre handles the combination of business and consumer phone better than the competition, read a Q&A with Dan Hesse, CEO of Sprint Nextel Corp on ajc.com.

I’m predicting: brisk, but not blazing hot, sales and a decent following. It won’t come anywhere near “killing” the iPhone.
This is the worst roll out of a new phone ever. I went to my Best buy this morning only to find out they were sold out. The reason they only received two phones. I then went to the Sprint Corporate store in Knoxville Tn and they were sold out. I was told they only received 4 phones. I have been a long term Sprint customer for 10 years now. I was holding on by a thread. I was going to switch to an iphone in january when all the hype about the pre hit. So I waited and waited only to be disappointed in sprint once again. I am over it AT&T iphone here I come. Sprint I hope you breath your last breath. Sprint you had one good chance, you did a great job of hype and held a few costumers from leaving over the last 6 months. I hope most of them will join me at AT&T.
Hey Jeff go ahead and switch to AT&T and quit crying…don’t forget your iPhone is NOT insured and I’ve seen plenty of cracked glass casings. Not to mention you will pay at least $60 more a month for service that’s terrible….so if the grass is greener why dont you put up and shut up cause no one cares how unhappy you are with sprint or anything else mr cry baby
Go ahead and switch and experience the most dropped calls in the industry, and a customer service staff that could care less. I have been an ATT customer for nine years and that does not matter to them. Oh Yeah, wait for the extra charges that you will incur. The grass is not always greener on the other side. ATT blows.
I’ve been a customer of Sprint for 7 years, and overall, I haven’t been impressed with the service. The only reason I never switched to another provider, is because I’m not interested in paying the high “initial” contract fees. I experience dozens of dropped calls a day, and when I’ve contacted Sprint for assistance with this, I’ve been informed there is nothing they can do about it. Furthermore, I have always received horrible customer service at the Sprint stores. They seem to care less whether or not they lose a long standing customer, which I find very dissapointing. Now, whenever I am interested in making a “Sprint” purchase, I do it through Best Buy. I currently own a Palm Treo, and am looking to upgrade to the Pre…….my fingers are crossed, I’m hoping for better luck with the Pre than I’ve had with my Treo.
There were long lines at my store. People showed up hours before the store opened and I showed up just 10 minutes before the store opened and there was at least 50 people in line. Within half an hour one of the sprint reps said that there were more people on the list than Palm Pres in the store. He highlighted the sign in list and anyone below the highlighted line was cut off because of the inventory shortage. I was 3 lines below that highlighted line. I counted the number of people below the highlighted line and there was 17, I watched only 3 people walk out of the store with a Palm Pre before that and I was watching the door all the time. So, there were only 20 Palm Pres in my store. Oh well better luck next time on opening day. I guess things on the manufacturing side are a bit of a struggle right now, but to Palm and Sprint credit they did an outstanding job on this device and I was really impressed with the demo display units in the store.
Att sucks, someone had att and tried to call me every time i pick it up about three seconds later they would drop the call. it was so annoying. As for the palm pre im not suprised it sold out. im a fan of the iPhone but the pre has way better software.
