Infinity Ward: Xbox 360 at limits with Modern Warfare 2

By: Alan Ng | June 5, 2009 | 4 Comments

In a statement that is sure to get Xbox 360 owner’s attention, Infinity Ward have spoken out and claimed that upcoming sequel Modern Warfare 2 pushes the Xbox 360 to it’s ‘upper limits’.

Infinity Ward’s Mark Rubin was speaking over at VG247 during this week’s E3 conference when he made the comments.

He stated: “We always push to the upper limits,” he said. “It’s just a matter of working around them at this point. Having to squeeze more blood from that stone. We added texture streaming now so that we can have a much bigger world, and we can stream in super high detail textures for the area close in proximity to you. And the rendering engine has been redone.”

VG247 points out that the game looked amazing running on the Xbox 360 during E3, so it will be interesting to see what the final product look likes.

Developers have said they have maxed out machines before , only to be proven wrong.

PS2 was maxed out supposidly and then God of War II came out and almost doubled the power that they previously thought PS2 was maxed out on.

360 has plenty of power left to show.

I am just worried that the DVD is holding back the 360 so much. They can’t gain access to the full potential of the system. Game creators don’t have enough room to put high detail textures on the disc. Drakes Fortune 2 looked incredible. I seriously doubt that could be done without the capacity of blue-ray.

As Mark Rubin says in his statement “We always push to the upper limits”, he isnt saying thats all the 360 has, he is just saying that they try to push the machines as far as they can for that game which they probably did with COD4, but things have improved since then. They will always find new ways to squeeze more out as long as the games sell by the shed load (and MW2 will, and then so will MW3). One thing I find with gaming and technology web sites is that as soon as anybody says anything that can be twisted, they will jump all over it and make it sound negetive to try and ignite fan boy arguments for hits on their forums. There will be many more games on the 360 that look better than Modern Warfare 2 in the years to come, I would wager my house on it.
