E3 2009: Sony’s Secret Developer

The E3 2009 conference is now done and dusted, but Game Player managed to grab an interview with Uncharted 2: Among Thieves Co-Lead Game Designer, Richard Lemarchand. The game proved very popular and Chris Stead has made a bold statement, saying that Uncharted 2 was the game of the show. The interview also discusses a secret developer within Sony

God of War III looked set to be a crowd pleaser at the show, but the Modern Warfare 2 demo blew that out of the window. The great thing about Uncharted 2 is that it has great visual quality, which is thanks to a great game engine called Naught Dog 2.0.

Stead asked developer Lemarchand if Sony asked if they were able to share the engine around, but they said that it is all Naught Dog’s. He did however say that there was a secret developer within Sony that takes other peoples engine advancements from both internal and second-party studios. The developer takes away the base set of tool from an engine; this is then used to help strengthen the PS3.
