Microsoft Project Natal for Xbox 360 and 3DV Systems ZCam

When Microsoft announced the Project Natal for Xbox 360 at their E3 2009 press conference, Engadget knew from the start that the technology behind it had something to do with 3DV Systems ZCam technology, which was first seen back at CES 2008.

This cool system will now be a major part of the Project Natal motion tracking solution, and Engadget now have conformation that they were correct. 3DV Systems had hoped to have ZCam in the manufacturing process by the end of 2008, but in January, Microsoft went in and purchased the company.

Back then, we did not think much of it, but since the announcement that the Xbox 360 was to get motion tracking, all the pieces have started to add up. There were initial rumors that the new system would be implemented on the Xbox 360 sometime in 2009, but that is being optimistic, 2010 is a far safer bet.

  1. This is something to look forward to by every gamer including those who plays their Death Knights in World of Warcraft. I heard that Nintendo and Sony will be releasing something similar to Microsoft’s Project Natal. Well, it’s gonna be a tough fight for the big 3. But in the end, it’s up to us gamers who will win.
