E3 2009: Microsoft made competition look foolish

As we know this week was E3 2009 and Cnet thought that they would run a poll asking their readers which company made the most impressive announcements. The choices were simple, Nintendo, Sony or Microsoft, and it seems that Microsoft made its competition look foolish at this year’s Electronic Entertainment Expo.

Over 10,000 people have voted in the pole so far, and Microsoft has had 51.9 percent of the votes. Sony or Nintendo do not need to see this poll to understand that their announcements were made to look stupid by the software giant.

Sony had 34 percent of the votes, while Nintendo only managed to scrape together 5.6 percent of the votes. We have to agree with Cnet, when they said that this is a well-deserved victory for Microsoft.

Project Natal looks to be one of the best pieces of technology we have seen since the Wii first came along. However, the new Project Natal for use with the Xbox 360 blows anything we have ever seen in gaming out of the water.

Either that, or 51.9% of people polled, are refusing to acknowledge reality. ;) I’ll go with the latter.

    My take on E3 2009 :

Microsoft showed us a bunch of stuff that has already been done; The Metal Gear Solid franchise has been out for over a decade. Both XBox & PS3 get Final Fantasy 13 but Final Fantasy 14 is exclusive for PS3. Again, a franchise that has been available for over a decade, but what’s the point of getting a FF13 exclusive if you can play FF14?

Sony showed us the future of it’s games. The philosophies of these two companies are vastly different. Where Microsoft paid a truck load of money for GTAIV DLC, Sony showed us a new exclusive from Rockstar Games called AGENT. A stealth based espionage game that is new and exclusive to PS3.

I’m not sure how much old stuff Microsoft can bring over to XBox before their fans get board with stuff they have already experienced.

The PS3 EXCLUSIVES: Uncharted 2, M.A.G., AGENT, Mod Nation Racers, The Last Guardian, Gran Turismo 5, Final Fantasy 14 and God of War III.

The 360 EXCLUSIVES: Metal Gear Solid: Rising, Shadow Complex, Joy Ride, Crackdown 2, Splinter Cell: Conviction, Forza 3, Halo 3, Alan Wake & A.P.B.

Round by Round Break Down :

    Round 1:

We got to see 360’s Joy Ride. A Kart-type racing game exclusive to 360. Then on Day 2 Sony shows off their fully customizable Kart racing game that was inspired by Little Big Planet. A crushing blow to Microsoft’s Joy Ride.

    Round 2:

Microsoft had a few more rabbits in their hat. Next up is the 360 exclusive Splinter Cell: Conviction. Then on Day 2 Sony announces their very own stealth/espionage exclusive called AGENT. AGENT is brought to you by the makers of the Grand Theft Auto franchise, Rock Star Games. Yet another of Microsoft’s rabbits landed in a pot.

    Round 3:

The Final Fantasy debacle - On Day 1 Microsoft touted that Final Fantasy was finally coming to the XBox360 in the form of Final Fantasy 13. Then on Day 2 Sony completely crushed that announcement with news of their own; Not only will PS3 be getting FF13 but they will also be getting Final Fantasy 14 as a PS3 exclusive. A visually mind blowing installment from the Final Fantasy franchise that has online multiplayer and is only possible on the PS3.

    Round 4:

Microsoft’s only exclusive that was relatively unchallenged by Sony was the announcement of the Metal Gear Solid: Rising exclusive. Although MGS is an old and confusing franchise, this one is a good one to have. Sony announced a Metal Gear exclusive of their own but not for the PS3. Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker is headed for the PSP & PSP GO. Although not a massive announcement, Microsoft can now say that they have a Metal Gear Solid game going to XBox360. We’ll all have to wait and see how MGS: Rising compares to MGS4’s graphics and size due to PS3’s processing power and blu-ray capabilities.

    Final thoughts:

The best game Microsoft showed off at E3 2009 was a game called A.P.B. It’s a brand new MMO title headed for the 360. It’s a cross between Team Fortress and Saints Row meaning it plays like Saints Row but has the graphics of Team Fortress.

With original franchise exclusives such as MAG and The Last Guardian coming to PS3, I don’t see how anyone in the gaming industry can deny it’s massive appeal over the competition. If Rockstar’s original PS3 exclusive, AGENT, has anywhere near the impact they had with GTA3, we’re looking at a title that could propel PS3 light years beyond all other consoles. And last but not least, the Demo of God of War III was just mind blowing. The environment surrounding Kratos’ battle was so vast that it appeared as if you could look into the distance for miles and miles at end. Completely amazing.

    What was boring:

For me Nintendo showed nothing interesting or appealing to a true gamer. Wii Fit Plus was Nintendo’s diamond crown but truthfully, I don’t see the sparkle at all. Same old nonsense. Same old baby game garbage. Nintendo is showing us that cheap is not better. Wii is the ultimate dust collector for people that want to say that they play video games. Get in on the conversation for $300 bucks. No thanks.

As for Sony & Microsoft’s motion controller presentations; A giant NO THANKS!

I feel, as most gamers do, that as a whole, the whole Motion Controller thing is a galactic waste of R&D time and R&D money. Both Microsoft & Sony wasted over 30 minutes each of stage time on this useless item. Garbage!

And the e3 2009 winner is:

Sony showed big, original, exclusive titles coming to the PS3. Titles that are pushing the limits of our gaming experience that are “only possible on the PS3″. Sony met all of Microsoft’s big announcements with a crushing blow of their own and that’s what E3 is all about. It’s about showing off your best while knocking out the competition and Sony accomplished just that.

The winner is Sony & PS3!

    2nd place goes to Microsoft.

3rd goes to Nintendo’s Wii which showed nothing exciting for it’s future. Wii Fit Plus? A different way to jump around. Yuk!

    • Gamer says:

Wow superdynamite, you are some Sony fanboy arent you? The ignorance always shines through with you guys.

      • calem says:

wow gamer you are some microsoft fanboy arent you? The ignorance always shines through with you guys.

as a owner of both consoles it pathetic how people like you surf the net decking anyone who doesnt own the same console as you. youre an idiot. you feel inpowered by something as dumb as you game console…. congrats…. but nobody cares. at least superdynamite tried to make a few valid points

    • Ray says:

Just so you know, Metal Gear solid rising us not exclusive. It’s multiplatform.Konami confirmed it yesterday. Also Kojima is only acting as producer while he’s busy working g on the “true sequal”. MGS: Peace walker.

    • low says:

sony fanboy strikes again you would think this guy is getting a check from them or something. ff14 is not exclusive to Sony do ur home work fanboy (1)microsoft (2)sony (3)nintendo.

      • LowLy says:

I think you Microsoft fan goggles are to tight. Ff14 is exclusive to Sony on a console basis . it is also coming out for the PC.SO you need to do your homework.

        • low says:

u really need to google ff14 b4 u reply to my message even the delv says its not exclusive and it will come out on xbox 360 in the future (sony lied).p.s please put ur fanboy views aside and look it up b4 u reply thanks.

        • low says:

Here ill do the hard part for all you lazy sony fanboys.http://news.google.com/news?um=1&ned=us&hl=en&q=final+fantasy+14+exclusivity

    • French says:

Metal Gear Solid: Rising was confirmed to be coming to the PS3 as well. It’s NOT a 360 exclusive.

  3. calem says:

a poll of 10,000 people is not a poll. the winning percentage is based on how many fans of a certain console happened to cross this site. in this case obviously more microsoft fans happened to come across the poll. for REAL polls people should visit common sites such as ign or gamewinners where the percentage is decided by hundreds of thousands of fans visited commonly by all genre of consoles, rather than ten thousand random fans who just so happened to be passing by.

  4. Sev says:

superdynamite, you can cross MGS: Rising off the list of 360 exclusives. It is NOT exclusive to 360. It will be on PS3 also.

I also doubt Kojima is heavily involved in Rising’s development since he mentioned nothing like it in 360 conference, whereas when he revealed MGS Peace Walker for the PSP he really stressed he would be involved in its development as will the main team from MGS4, on top mentioning Peace Walker is the true sequel to the MGS franchise, which makes me think of Rising as nothing more than a spinoff. It will never be as big as MGS4.

That said, Sony clearly won the show for me. They had the best games, best announcements. Even the motion controller they showed more concrete to me compared Microsoft’s rather visionary approach with the Natal stuff.

The only thing foolish here is the author of this joke of an article.

Microsoft at best had a decent E3 but Sony rocked the event with top exclusives like Uncharted 2, God of War 3, Last Guardian, Agent, FF XIV, Mod Nation Racer, Gran Turismo 5 and so on.

  5. Sonygirl says:

Obviously, I am what my name is, but regardless, does it really matter what’s exclusive and what’s not? :x Hell, I own a GC PS2 and a PC.

    • Ray says:

It only matters when it comes to the Ps3. You get games like MGS4, Killzone 2, Uncharted, Heavey Rain, inFAMOUS etc. Games that are only possible on the PS3. Everything multiplatform is mediocre.

  6. Irvan says:

…very confused about people thinking Project Natal is a giant brake through. It does look very promising but other than seeming (and not sure yet) a little more defined over the Playstation Eye…which was released quite a while ago, it is “been done” technology. Microsoft are just really good at presentations, they just have to work on delivering on their ideas.

PS Where was Peter Jackson this year to speak on his ground breaking project, guess Spielberg is the ace card this year.

    • john says:

Speilber is NOT an ace card, they fucking paid him, and he wanted sum fucking publicity!! what is it with u people? Seeing a celebrity talk about something and all of a sudden u are sold!! WTF!! people are such fucking sheep, it wouldnt matter if it was Speilberg or a fucking tramp on the street! If the product is good I BUY!!!

  7. Ryan says:

you microbox idiots are stupid as hell jack trenton said it himself that FF14 was exclusive to ps3 in a interview with pulse so get your facts right before you turdboxes post

  8. ChrisW says:

FF14 an exclusive for Sony? I’ll believe it when I see it. MS’ pockets are DEEP and game developement is getting extremely expensive these days. In the future, it will be even more expensive. Thus, as I said, “I’ll believe it when I see it.”

  9. James says:

    You know what’s funny?

How everyone says PS3 & Sony won, as they had a huge exclusive lise… and How many of them had a release date? Erm… How many? Yeah it’s good to announce games, but anyone can announce games, release dates are the key.

“Last Guardian, Agent, FF XIV, Mod Nation Racer, Gran Turismo 5 and so on”

That’s an example. I don’t know about Mod nation, but certainly none of the others got release dates. You look like a fool with your “SONY WIN” shit. :)

    • john says:

Mate u are an idiot!! Where was the release date for the new MG?? Where was the release date for project natal?? U fucking dumbass!! NO release date means ‘game is under production’ so u dont put a date unless u know for SURE!! If u worked in the industry u would know this. And there was a release date for GOWIII, and that’s ALL that matters mate. Oh and by the way…. there is no winner at E3, E3 is NOT a competition, it’s a showcase conference. Its only websites like this a people like u who make up such nonesense!!

  10. john says:

What an absolutely retarded article this is!! 10,000 people have replied! U fucking dumbass!! Those so called 10k people are all microsoft employees arent they? Only a fucking retard or an M$ employee would think such things. The only people that looked foolish at E3 WERE Microsoft! Project natal?? That is just a fucking eye toy, no price, no release date and to top it all off it was a fake presentation! It was all made up and wans’t even working at E3, and all u fucking idiots fell for it!! Microsoft didnt even develop natal, they just bought it off another company. I’m sorry but the only people that look foolish, sorry fucking pathetic were microsoft! U can take yr stupid poll of 10k people and shove it!
