Windows 7 ship date and beta turn-off

Microsoft has been working like mad to try to replace the unpopular Windows Vista, and its successor as we know is Windows 7. The new operating system will be released on October 22, and for those running the beta version, the turn-off will be on July 1 2009.
Vista has never been popular, with many people reverting to their old faithful Windows XP, so it is nice to know that the Vista killer will be out in time for the holiday season. We only hope that the new operating system is a vast improvement over Vista, then again, it would not take much to do that.
The Mac Observer informs us that Microsoft will also be launching a Vista-to-Windows 7 upgrade program. This will allow those who purchased a copy of Vista in advance of Windows 7 to upgrade to the new OS.
The main problem with Windows Vista was that it uses far too much system resources; Windows 7 looks to address that problem. Let us hope that when we upgrade to the new OS, we will see increased performance on our laptops and PCs.
In other Windows 7 news, we reported that there will be no app limits on the starter edition.
