With the Microsoft, Nintendo and Sony E3 press conferences all wrapped up, focus now switches to opinions on ‘Which company had the best showing?’ All three had huge announcements to reveal, so what are your thoughts on this?
Let’s start off with Microsoft. No doubt that their biggest announcement was Project Natal. No-one had ever seen that kind of technology before and it left everyone wanting more. Secondly, was the announcement of Metal Gear Solid: Rising for the Xbox 360. Thirdly and by no means least important, after a showing of Halo 3: ODST, there was a reveal for a brand new Halo game titled Halo: Reach.
As for Nintendo, they unveiled their Wii Vitality Sensor which attaches to your fingertip and can measure your pulse and vital body stats. Then, there was announcements for Wii Fit Plus, Mario Galaxy 2, Super Mario Bros. Wii and an awesome looking new Metroid game developed by Team Ninja.
Sony’s conference took place last of the three and they had some interesting details to reveal too. Sadly, most of Sony’s announcements were leaked before E3, so it didn’t come as too much of a surprise when they were revealed. These included PSP Go!, PS3 Motion Control ( Although we saw it in the flesh for the first time) and Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker for Sony PSP.
We had already heard rumors on an upcoming MMO from Square-Enix, but no-one expected it to be Final Fantasy XIV and a PS3 exclusive on top. There was also news on another PS3 exclusive from Rockstar titled ‘Agent’, an all-new Resident Evil game designed for the PSP Go!, Gran Turismo PSP details, God of War III details, MAG details and a confirmation of Lost Planet 2 on the PS3.
So that’s all the top stories so far from this year’s E3, links galore. We say so far, as the event is still ongoing and there may be more announcements to come.
Who do you think has had the best E3 and why? State your reasons below.

I never thought I’d say this but hands down it’s M$.
Where Sony followed…
Nintendo stayed still…
Microsoft innovated.
Who knows if Project Natal will be all it’s cracked up to be but one things for sure, I won’t be waving around a thick black stick with a ping pong ball stuck on top.
Sony won E3 by a mile. The exclusives, new hardware and new media for the PSN. All things microsoft did but Sony did it about 20% better. The Wii is first is sales… last in true gamer and media appeal.
You’re gaaaaaaayy!
Are you talking about those animations and that black stick with glowing ping pong ball they threw together at the last minute in fear of the MS press conference?? Natal scared the crap out of them so they had to make something up on the fly. At least that is my speculation.
Don’t even try and pretend that PSP go is worth the box it comes in. Until they give us a dual analog handheld that thing is shite.
project natal isn’t even a prototype yet it sucks
(where as ps3’s attempt is way better as its more than just an idea unlike natal which is just a stupid cheesy advert)
Microsoft blew me away, they were amazing Project Natal looks fab but I must say Sony have finally convinced me to purchase a PS3 with the announcement of a new FF Online and the less said about nintendo the better, when people think of 4d they think of dimensions not players the only section which pleased me was the announcement of Golden Sun, otherwise the rest was predictable. (Not including Peripherals)
I would say Sony won this year, with Microsoft second and Nintendo a distant third. Microsoft’s motion control demo was impressive, but Sony’s has much more potential for game applications, not to mention the fact that Sony’s was done live.
Did you watch the conference? Human break out - the painting? I don’t think that was Memorex.
Ok. All platforms had everyone surprised with their games and innovations, but Microsoft had the highest tech savvy products that enthusiasts are going to enjoy the most. I know most people are not going to agree with me, but PS3’s motion control sensing is just an upgrade from the Wii Motion Plus. Microsofts voice recognition/face recognition/ and dont forget about the true 3d environment without anything interfering had to have everybody blown away. Just think about the demo with Milo. that is the coolest thing that i have ever seen. can PS3 hand a piece of paper from the real world to the virtual world and have a conversation with a fictional character? Not at all. Microsofts intuitivity is amazing and truely revolutionary. Every console has their own positives and negatives, but the xbox 360 and microsoft have the most positives and the coolest gadgets and games coming out in the not so distant future. PS3 has the power, but the marketing and business smarts can not compare to Microsofts. Nintendo’s business is good but xbox has topped of the high end gaming with the highest motion controls possible without the need of the controller. Just think about the possibilities with that technology. All the consoles are great and everyone has an opinion, and my in my opinion and the opinion of millions of others, Microsoft takes home the Gold.
Microsoft won by a mile. Two Halo games, MGS for the 360, Forza 3 along with the true ingenuity of Project Natal unlike Sony’s upgraded wiimote truly ruled. As for sony…who’s going to buy yet another PSP?? how many times are they going to try selling the same thing??? If that’s not lame I don’t know what is. Not to mention that Sony just let the screen run with with frames of hundreds of games they weren’t announcing and nobody really got a look at any of them to say ooooh that’s what I want. Why not just move on to something else and finish it off early. As for nintendo….all I can say is gender stereotype, kiddies and the millionth mario game. I was playing mario as a child decades ago….time to move on.
Lol, yeah- how do you possibly support Sony in this? PSP Go vs. Natal, plus a new Halo game? Get out.
Ok let me try, MAG 256 online multiplayer shooter, God of War 3, FF 14 as an exclusive, the Slim model, Team Ico working on another mysterious game, Gran Turismo 5. Thats only about half of what there is to look forward to on the ps3 this next year.
All i got out of 360 was halo (which i was a damn at the start, but now i am just so damn sick of) and project Natal, which looks awesome, but technology like that is VERY hard to master, and is easy as hell to make look good in a video when it is working all perfect and fine.
Theres more going on with the ps3 this year, and i own both systems and last year found myself using my 360 a slight amount more. But this year without a doubt my ps3 will have all of the love. Sony straight up kicked some ass, no doubt about it.
Microsoft won hands down due to their innovations and game line up. They had amazing “New” announcments like Halo:Reach, crackdown 2, l4d2 and project natal. Sony just showed us a bunch of games that we have seen and heard of a thousand time and then bring out a wii mote rip off, At least microsoft had the guts to show off something new and innovative instead of showing some whiped together peice of crap that sony showed off.
I’m a super hugh Sony fan but also enjoy Microsoft Games such as Gears of War and Halo (fav), and this year the realease if project natal completely blew me away. But even though project natal is seriously the best realease for E3 2009 I still think Sony had the overall better realeases. So in my opnion I think Sony won but not by far.
Sony easily won this E3. The MGS on the 360 is also on PS3. And NATAl is useless fo real games without buttons. Uncharted 2, Ratchet and Clank, Heavy Rain, God of War 3, and MAG. NATAL is just a tool to trick casual gamers into buying a 360 so it can sit dusty in a corner, beside their Wii. It may sell units but will be a useless piece of hardware for real games. But imagine playing an Everquest type game with the Playstation motion control. You can use the “sticks” to swing a sword and block with a shield, but you’ll have buttons for magic and movement. With NATAL you get the type of games we already have for the eyetoy. OOhh I can splatter paint or kick and slap colored balls, sounds like fun.
One more thing, 2 Halo games in a year is a positive? That’s funny.
By the way, the PS3 shipped with face recognition. Play your pics in a slide show and watch it zoom into people faces in your pics. It’s just like M$ to pretend to invent something already out, i.e. online gaming.
