PSP Go vs New Apple iPhone 3.0 OS in 2009
Filed under: Gaming

When it comes to portable gaming the iPod Touch and Apple iPhone has changed the industry, and where some people would have paid for high priced Nintendo DS and Sony PSP games, now there is a cheaper option.
Families have bought their children iPod Touches to replace the DS and PSP, thanks to thousands of free apps and very cheap paid apps that are instantly downloadable from the Apple App Store.
The PSP may have better controls, but using discs seems pointless when they could be downloaded as digital content. Yes this can be done via the PS3, but a better option was needed and more dedicated storage.
The answer from Sony seems to be the PSP Go, with a rumored 16GB of storage, no UMD disk format and digital content downloads. The iPhone has never had great controls for many games, if the PSP Go and Sony can create a good digital download solution then this could be a better portable gaming solution.
The PSP Go would have to have better hardware, but also a big download choice and the right price for games.
The new iPhone 3.0 OS looks to improve Apple’s portable gaming with Push Notifications that can improve in game interactivity, and the rumored new iPhone to be unveiled at WWDC 2009 with a possible OLED screen can also improve gaming on the iPhone.
So what device would you want to game on more in 2009, the PSP Go or New iPhone / iPod with OS 3.0? Please comment below

If I were in the market for a hand-held, it would most certainly be anything, not made by Apple. People complain about RROD, but the facts are, if there’s any company that uses worse hardware and manfucturing techniques…it’s Apple.
Morne
What planet your on Morne. For sure Apple arent perfect but for a company to have such a massive hold on the hand-held market they must be doing something right. Is your thinking based on rational thought or jealousy ?
Fonzi
All right you stupid moron. Apple rules bottom line.
How many times will the press bring this up? The Apple machine is dead in the water without real, tactile buttons or analog controls. As a real gaming machine already disqualified, unless all you ever want to play is the same types of casual games, where a touchscreen is all you’ll ever need. Boring!
I’m more in the market for the new Walkman X series. Its just a shame Sony didnt make it compatible with movie downloads from PS Store. It’s compaitible with Amazons Video on Demand (which is kinda shocking). So instead of having Sony dominate my living room, that will go to Microsoft and its media center PC. I’ll buy a Sony TV, and an X series walkman, but the software will go to Microsoft and Amazon.
The PSP is for dedicated hardcore gamers which is a small subset of the total population. The iPod Touch / iPhone appeal to a bigger mass market – not niche gaming, but kinda casual gamers. Also, adoption rates among women for the touch / iPhone are significant unlike the PSP….
Also, iPhone / Touch v PSP is not a like with like product comparison….
All of you that think the iPhone cant count as a gaming console, thats b*******. I happen to have an iPhone along with the DS and PSP and i prefer the iPhone. It has numerous useful apps and apps that are very fun to play (Sims 3, Pocket God, Sonic the Hedgehog, iDracula, UniWar, Tap Tap Revenge, Rolando, LiveFire (even though it isnt out yet), Leaf Trombone: World Stage, and the list goes on and on…
Gamer + PSP + wherever whenever = everywhere just got better.
Gamer + iPhone + am stuck in traffic = casual gamer
the psp go is going to be way better than the ipod touch and iphone but i would have liked a camera, another analog stick, faster cpu, and better screen resolution.
Hi I have an iPhone and to be honest I have some awesome games for it like sims 3, monopoly, west coast, ea madden 2010, trivial pursuit and the list goes on and on, I absolutley love the gaming experiance on it, sometimes I forget it’s a phone, iPod and emailing device. I beleive it’s the best thing since sliced bread on all accounts. I am planning on buying myself a psp go but uncertain, it’s steep at £250 which is also the price of the the new ps3, so I don’t know how it’s been priced up. Does anyone know how much the games are or what games will come out for it? Because on the apple apps store games are very resonabily priced, with me I have not paid over £9 for one. Maybe best to get a ps3 as it comes with a bluray player built in or maybe at 30 I’m getting too old. Pls comment as I would be interested in all ur thoughts.
I have many friends with the iPod touch and i’ve owned the psp 1000 and 3000. I prefer the psp for the gaming experience plus with the release of the psp go they are launching a new playstation store, which contains a (mini) section for app like games just like the iPod touch runs. the price is steep but its acctually 229 euros or the equivalent of $250 dollars, it is also rumored to be released with a free download of gran turismo plus the nice thing about the psp go is the 16gb memory is expandable to 48gb in total. Sony is also in talks of a mechanism for you to port all of your psp games to the psp go, they just haven’t stated how. There are also new xmb features and some exciting things that are said to be announced when we get closer to release on oct. 1
PSP GO
I have both PSP (not PSP Go) and ipod touch 3G. Which do I like the most? definitely ipod touch. It’s not because I am a apple fanboi or whatever, it’s because ipod touch is a better multimedia device. It can play music, movies, and games with better graphics and gameplay than PSP or DS. To anyone who doubt iphone/touch gaming capabilities, I advise them to try Real Racing (Better than ANY racing games in PSP), Hero of Sparta, Sims 3, Zenonia etc etc. And also Eliminate Pro, a FREE multiplayer online game, with well polished graphics and smooth online play, I will agree that at first the virtual controls will feel little awkward but after sometime of playing, you will get used to it. I don’t remember any games that are free in PSP except those homebrew games which really don’t count. And about mini games in PlayStation Network, I doubt that they will be able to match the quality of iphone/touch games. Sony has already announced that mini games won’t be more than 100 MB and will not have any multiplayer feature, also the games in PSN are more pricier.
