GM News: More dealerships closing

General Motors had already announced that they were to close 1,124 dealers next year; however, GM looks set to announce more dealerships closing. The announcement coincides with the news that the troubled automaker filed for bankruptcy protection today.
According to Automotive News, several sources have said that a further 450 dealers could be closing, but GM’s VP of North American sales, Mark LaNeve told Automotive News that the number would be “less than half that.”
It does not matter if the number is more or less than 450; it is yet more troubling news not only for GM, but also for the auto industry as a whole. Some of the General Motors dealers that will be closing looks to be those who are exclusively or heavily Pontiac. All of the dealers on the first and the new list will shut when their contracts expire in October 2010.
