Computex 2009: Shortage of electronic components
By: Peter Chubb | June 1, 2009 | Leave a CommentThere seems to be a huge shortage of electronic components, this includes chips and displays, this is going to have bad consequences for Asia’s technology sector, so much so that the electrical products that you see at the Computex 2009 show will be the only place that you see some of the products for a while.
This shortage of electronic components is not the best time to be happening, as this could have a serious effect on the recovery in Asia’s technology sector. China’s $600 billion stimulus spending has been the main cause of Asia’s tech sector recovery, China it seems is not just an exporter now, they are now an electronics consumer as well.
The reason why there is a shortage in electronic components is simple, Reuters explains that makers of memory chips and displays reduced its output last year as they tried to reduce their costs, this has had an effect with the amount of memory chips and displays that they now have in stock. It is not certain how long the shortage of these key components will last.
