By: Peter Chubb | June 1, 2009 | Leave a CommentWikipedia have made a shocking move that is sure to upset a few people, they have banned contributions from all IP addresses that is owned or operated by the Church of Scientology. Wikipedia have done this to crack down on self-serving edits.
This has been the longest –running court case for Wikipedia, the site’s Arbitration Committee voted 10 to 0 in favor of the ban, this will take effect immediately. This is the first time that the eighth most popular website on the Internet has banned edits from such a high-profile organization.
It is no secret that Wikipedia is against those who self-edit in order to promote their own interests. The Register points out that the online encyclopedia does not like those who edits to advance personal agendas, this includes propaganda, philosophical or to promote ideological or religious dispute.
