When we was first sent the Mini Microphone for iPhone 3G iPod Touch and Nano, I did not think that there was anything in the packaging at first. After another look, the small device was inside the packaging, but it was hidden behind the huge sticker, which has the name of the website where you can purchase the item.

This product is perfect for those who have certain jobs or hobbies that need you to record what you, or other people are saying, for example, journalists. Before we get started, the Mini Microphone will only work with the iPhone 3G, iPod Touch 2G, iPod Nano 4G and iPod Classic 120.

The device is very small and does not look like a traditional microphone, great if you did not want anybody to know you are about to record them. The device is easy to use, just connect it and you are ready to go.

Just to remind you, before you do this, you will need to install a special app; this could be either Easy Recorder or iTalk Recorder, if you own an iPod Nano 4G or an iPod Classic 120, then the pre-loaded recording software should do just fine.

As we mentioned above, the great advantage of the Microphone is how small and portable it is, the device has been made to wear as a necklace, and will not draw much attention when you do so. The small item does not require batteries, as it gets its power from the device that it is plugged in to. The device comes in a choice of white or black, and costs just $11.99.

    Cute.

The downside is you’d be forced to remove your case to use it. That’s a pretty major downside, given all the form fitting iPhone and iPod touch cases there are.

Here’s another. The SwitchEasy ThumbTack microphone. It works the same but has a small nub at it’s base that will enable you to use it with many cases.

I have one and it works great, even with my case!

This review would benefit greatly from a few sample audio files of recordings made with this microphone!

It would benefit this review to know what the specs of the microphone are. Frequency range, noise rejection, pattern, etc.

A friend gave me one of these for my iPod Touch. I was hoping to use it with the Skype app but quickly realized with this mic plugged in it shuts off the speaker. That means you can only use this mic when you don’t want to hear things. So even if you want to record a voice memo and play it back to make sure it sounds good you will need to unplug the mic to hear it.

Hey bro, I'm thinking about getting one too specifically for skype. Just a pointer if you're wanting to use it with skype…. Tap the screen while on a call and click "Speaker" then (I believe) you will be able to hear the built in speaker while using the plug in mic. (This method works with iphone mic on the headphones and the ipod built in speaker so it should work).
