By: Alan Ng | May 30, 2009 | 2 Comments

It has been confirmed that Sprint will have exclusivity on the Palm Pre smartphone throughout 2009. It means that other carriers will now be offering the Palm Pre around six months from now.

The news is according to this Smartmoney report, which has a statement from a Sprint spokesman who has confirmed the news himself.

To put it simply enough, Sprint’s Sam Fisher stated: “We have the Pre through 2009.” Chief Executive of Verizon Wireless, Lowell McAdam has commented on the news and has said that the company hopes to release the Pre over the “next six months or so.”

Sprint should have been smarter than to admit the Pre being an exclusive for only 6 months. That tells anyone thinking of bailing from Verizon to just hold still and wait it out. Why anyone would want to pay $45 for a data plan that runs $15 @ Sprint using the same EVDO technology baffles smart thinkers.

First of all it isnt necessarily 45$ for a Verizon Data Plan, and second of all maybe people spend more money for a service because it is BETTER than the other. It may be the same technology, but it is not deployed even remotely the same. If you live in a city and NEVER leave then fine Sprint is great for you, if you ever leave the city or travel you might as well forget it. I switched to Sprint to give it a try for the Palm Pre, it was the WORST service I have ever received, I am excited for the Pre to be coming to Verizon, and barring any better phones being announced to that date, I will be purchasing so I can enjoy my cloud based phone on a 3G network that truly is nationwide and not just along major highways =X
