The Palm Pre is expected to be a competitor for the Apple iPhone, and the handset, which is released on June 6 on Sprint, has been given an unexpected boost as Verizon Wireless said that the smartphone would be part of its line-up. This news sent shares in Palm up 8.8 percent.
Reuters explains that it is no secret that Palm is relying on the Pre to help get its business back on track, and to help it gain its market share once more from rivals Apple. We mentioned in a recent post that Verizon would get the Pre in the next six months.
Palm looks as though they have secured a great deal, and Verizon must also be pleased. We know that Verizon has wanted to get its hands on the Apple iPhone for some time; so far, they have had no luck. Verizon will have what everyone thinks could be the next best thing. Only time will tell on that.
