Xbox 360 standing still and PS3 hits stride

At article over at PSXExtreme has suggested that the Playstation 3 is continuing to stride forward in 2009, leaving Microsoft’s Xbox 360 console trailling in the process.

According to PSXExtreme, they base their opinions on the current and future software lineup for the PS3 and Xbox 360. As with other general 360 Vs PS3 debates, they comment on the likes of Gears of War 2, Halo 3, Killzone 2 and the newly released inFAMOUS.

Their main issue though, is the fact that they see no solid titles on the way for the Xbox 360, when comparing to whats in store for the PS3. With references to Heavy Rain, Uncharted 2, White Knight Chronicles, God of War III and Hideo Kojima’s upcoming ( and most likely a PS3 exclusive) Metal Gear game.

I read their site allot actually, but, I think they’re pretty much jumping the gun by making these claims…simply because MS really hasn’t spoken much about what they’re up to. Obviously, they’re waiting on E3 and other such venues to turn up the WoW factor. The real question is, has Sony let loose all of their aces…or are they holding a good chunk of info in secrecy? Cause, it’s really a given that MS has a bunch of stuff in store… Sony could have problems if they’ve blown their proverbial load already.

Morne, what are you doing here? Rather not get into a full discussion but you do make a point. I will say that Sony still has some announcements left to make that I’m sure will please many gamers.

It seems as if Sony and MS have switched strategies for this year’s E3. Last year Sony was very hush-hush while MS couldn’t stop talking about the “AAA” titles they had on the way.

Probably back to the old saying, “If you don’t have anything good to say, don’t say anything at all.”

Oh not much, just perusing PS3 articles and commenting here and there throughout the work day.

On topic - I’m thinking Sony has more also, but without knowing for certain, wasn’t gonna claim it or anything. But, both companies will always retain their big huge secret stuff for the widest of venues. So, we’ll see how it goes. Either way, should be a great week!

I think that sony’s ace is the date of the price drop. We all know that it’s going to happen. The question is when. I feel that it will happen in the fall time frame.

Simple - Xbox is old and never really deserved to be called a Next Gen Console. PS3 is the only one that truly deserves this title and this years E3 and 2009 so far are proving it.

Everyone i know that games have either stopped playing their 360 and play their ps3’s or have traded the RROD Machines in for Robust PS3’s.

The dawn is here - PS3 is the best console ever made!

what the hell are you on, clearly the ps3 is getting better but come on you expect us to be believe that people are throwing away there xboxes to get a ps3. do you work for sony or something or have you forgotten your pills toady lol

Perhaps Microsoft should look at the quality of xbox. Rubbish if this house’s experience is anything to go by. Check youtube for cures to “Red ring of death” A shelf life of less than two years is not quality. When the second xbox dies it will not be replaced

Microsoft has a problem with perceived value.

It’s not just the cheap-and-cheerful 360 itself. The number of Halo games they’re pumping out is diluting the brand - Halo was supposed to be the flagship title, not an endless cash-cow. There used to be a buzz before each one came out, but that’s gone.

The PS3 has become a much more desirable system to own - it’s the Mercedes to the XBox Ford.

    At PS3 fanboys -

    1. Microsoft has always tricks up their sleeves, last year was announcing FF13 on the 360. And many people thought 2008 was year of the PS3 until Gears 2 came out and crushed it. Good games for the 360 don’t come out late in the year, look at the big releases….Halo 3 - fall, Gears 2 - fall. This year it’s Halo 3 ODST and Mass Effect 2.

    2. Both consoles have their advantages and disadvantages. All consoles can be called next-gen because they bring something new to the table. The Wii is motion controlled play. The PS3 is blu-ray. The Xbox 360 is next-level on online gaming. And all consoles lack something the other consoles have. Wii lacks graphics, 360 lacks blu-ray, ps3 lacks backward compatibility.

    3. Like I said, all consoles have their weaknesses. Microsoft rushed producing the 360 a year early knowing that it didn’t have a stable build quality, and that explain’s why the consoles had a high failure rate. But the PS3 also has system failures call the “Yellow Light of Death”. Search on Youtube, you’ll see. However, I don’t see consumers really scared of RROD as proof that the 360 keeps outselling the PS3.

    4. Well, in the early years of the console wars, atleast Microsoft wasn’t desperate for triple A titles, they had good titles for the 360 shipping out every few months, while Sony was desperate for some cash, since they lost over $4 billion+ on the PS3, so they hyped some shitty titles like HAZE and Lair. And it’s true that the PS3 can be compared to a Mercedes - not many people can afford it and it has features you don’t really need, i’m down with ford, it has everything i need and a price i can be happy with =)

Speak for yourself, my PS3 has BC ;)

Only those who were asleep at the helm, thought they could sit around and wait for the price to drop and still get all the original functionality, don’t have BC. For the rest of us smart individuals, we’re as good as gold.

Oh by the way, new E3 news from Sony, that’s not been spoken of yet. Gran Turismo 5, will in fact, be at E3!!!!!

I read the gaming press close to everyday. Some of the nonsense/tripe/downright-lies I come across I find truly repugnant at times. However, it’s always good to come across an article which hits the nail on the head.

As more and more columns are filled with wild guesses and educated stabs at the future, nothing more obvious (at present) is the fact that the 360 has lost all momentum. I then stumbled over to GameRankings website (just like Metacritic) and noticed the PS3 recent releases list. A healthy mix of great and not-so great games to play. Scores covering the sort of range I’d expect. However, curiosity got me and I snuck a peek at the 360 recent releases and good god!… What a drought of quality titles. A few friends have backed this up saying “I haven’t switched on my 360 at all this year but the PS3 is getting a good seeing to” or words to that effect.

Hopefully both Sony and Microsoft will have some stunning announcements as competition keeps them trying to please the customer and that’s what we all want. That doesn’t, however, stop me from seeing 2009 being very much Sony’s year so far.

Next week should be a cracking week for all concerned.

  9. Nynja says:

Yup, 360 is just like a F.O.R.D. Fixed Or Repaired Daily. Always in the repair shop.

I bought a 360 for 1 reason; Gears of War. I hate the XBL service because of the connection issues I experience trying to use 2 360s on the same network while I have no - absolutely NO - issues with the free PSN service connecting my 2 PS3s.

Some nights I am able to get both 360s on XBL with no problems. Other nights, which ever console connects first will be kicked once the other loads up. Port forwarding and triggering or true DMZ setup does not resolve the matter either (don’t get me started with MS’ customer support). I NEVER have this problem with the PS3s, EVER.

    For those Xbox fanboys;

Microsoft can suck a fat one for gouging the customer and continual releases of faulty products (hardware and software). That’s how their business plan has always been, a major flaw in my book. Don’t get me wrong, Sony have their own flaws too. With proprietary hardware and exploding batteries, for example. Though they have seen the benefits of the open source market and non-proprietary devices and begun to change their business model. Not much else to complain about with Sony as they continue to improve in this area. Initial price has always been part of Sony products. Typically when you buy a Sony product, you know you are getting quality (except the VIAOs - complete crap in my opinion). When you buy Microsoft, you -should- know that their will be issues that will need to be ironed out (see history of Windows OS, Office, IE, keyboards and mouse). Microsoft has good games. Sony has good games. Microsoft buys good products. Sony develops good products.

I have more respect for a company that comes up with their own inventions than those who just buy everything and resell it.

  10. Michael says:

Don’t forget Trico, Team Ico’s new offering. Almost certain to be at E3. A year old trailer has recent surfaced on the internet showing an Ico-like boy and his pet eagle colussus. Looking pretty good….
