Square Enix at E3 2009: PS3 Exclusive MMO

While most are awaiting fresh news on Final Fantasy XIII and Versus XIII from Square-Enix at E3, it has been revealed that the company are also preparing to announce a MMO as a PS3 exclusive.

According to GamePlayer, the MMO from Square-Enix has been codenamed ‘Rapture’ and will be released onto Playstation 3 and PC. As well as other titles, this new game is set to be unveiled at the Sony Press Conference on Tuesday 2nd June.

Gameplayer have also pointed out that Square-Enix have chosen to give the new game the ‘MMO’ title as opposed to a MMORPG, so it’s going to be a very exciting week, once E3 kicks off.

  1. Papinka says:

SE posted a new area on their NA website today. The 3 SE titles are Dissidia / FFXIII / and a new kingdon hearts (possibly the mmo). na.frontmissionevolved.com (press section)

Front Mission Evolved is also announced and listed as 3rd person shooter with single player campaign and online multiplayer. Not listed as “MMO” but it seems like option 2.

So it seems like Dissidia, Kindgom hearts or Front Mission MMO unless FFXIII is an mmo…

    • Vandriel says:

That, or they aren’t releasing what it is until they unveil it at E3, personally that seems more likely than any of those games being an MMO.

  2. MidgardZolom says:

    This is a misinformed aritcle.

Square Enix has been working on a Multiplatform MMO since 2005 Code Named “Rapture” with the intent to release it on PC, the Xbox360 and the PS3 simultaniously with support showing up for Mac or Linux as being possible as well.

It was never going to be a PS3 Exclusive and was announced for the 360 before the PS3 anyway. Please stop replicating this false information.

  3. Khrone says:

I think you’re the one that’s been misinformed.

Rapture is based on the Crystal Tools engine, which was specifically designed for PS3, but will also work on desktops and the 360. (I’ve never heard about it ever being ported to Mac or Linux though.) If anything, Rapture was announced for PS3 first and then later they said “possibly 360 too”.

And the part from the initial press release saying that it would be “exclusive to the PS3″, they meant “exclusive to only ONE console system”, which did not include the desktop computer.
