New iPhone 2009 release date and HSPA 7.2 service
By: Peter Chubb | May 27, 2009 | 9 CommentsThe new iPhone which is due to be released in either June or July, is about to get a speed boost from AT&T as they have announced plans for its HSPA 7.2 Mbps mobile data service in 2009, which will support faster iPhone models expected to get a release date of summer 2009.
AppleInsider informs us that AT&T said that the upgrade to High Speed Packet Access (HSPA) 7.2 technology would offer speed twice as fast as what the current iPhone 3G model offers. This new faster service will be phased in from now until 2011.
That is not all; AT&T will also begin trials of LTE (Long Term Evolution), with a hope of deploying the technology in 2011. It is thought that LTE will be able to reach speeds of up to 20 Mbps. Although AT&T is working on HSPA, it is clear that LTE is the future for the network, and should be widely available from 2011 or 2012.
