New iPhone 2009 release date and HSPA 7.2 service

The new iPhone which is due to be released in either June or July, is about to get a speed boost from AT&T as they have announced plans for its HSPA 7.2 Mbps mobile data service in 2009, which will support faster iPhone models expected to get a release date of summer 2009.

AppleInsider informs us that AT&T said that the upgrade to High Speed Packet Access (HSPA) 7.2 technology would offer speed twice as fast as what the current iPhone 3G model offers. This new faster service will be phased in from now until 2011.

That is not all; AT&T will also begin trials of LTE (Long Term Evolution), with a hope of deploying the technology in 2011. It is thought that LTE will be able to reach speeds of up to 20 Mbps. Although AT&T is working on HSPA, it is clear that LTE is the future for the network, and should be widely available from 2011 or 2012.

Smoke and mirrors. Sad fact is, here in greater Los Angeles AT&T’s dropped call rate is abysmal. Despite 5 bars, I’m unable to use my iPhone at home. I’ve spend 2.5 hours on the phone with AT&T which can’t stop my iPhone from ringing through to voicemail on the first ring. World’s best smartphone on world’s worse network. Faster YouTube isn’t going to justify AT&T’s pathetic phone service.

I get dropped calls more than I have in the past with other phones. It’s a super sensitive phone, but ultimately, it does what I want it to do and more.

Not a single dropped call with t-mobile in Germany and Europe. ;-)

verizon is going to deploy LTE as their 4G network, so hopefully they get an iphone version next year. if that does happen AT&T is going to have a problem in the LA and greater LA area, since verizon has the best network around this area. i got an iphone and gave it back because i got so many dropped calls in the first week it was ridiculous
