Microsoft Zune HD: Release date confirmed

This is the news that many of you have been waiting for, Microsoft have confirmed the release date of the Zune HD. The new touchscreen Zune will be taking on Apple’s iPod Touch, as the new device will now be able to surf the Internet, receive FM radio as well as play HD movies.

The Microsoft Zune HD will be released in the U.S. sometime in the fall and will come with a new OLED screen; this seems to be all the rage now, as the rumored new Apple iPhone for 2009 will also come with the organic light - emitting diode screen.

Microsoft has not yet released pricing details or storage capacity, but we do know that the new Zune HD will use flash memory. Cnet Reviews also informs us that the software giant will give more details of a new Zune-branded video service for the Xbox at the E3 trade show in Los Angeles; this will replace the current Xbox Live marketplace for TV and movies.

I’d just like to point out that Microsoft’s Zune products have been able to receive FM radio since the second generation series. This has been a typical feature of the firmware for a while, and it beat out Apple’s iPods in supplying this feature.

    • Matt says:

Actually the first-generation 30GB Zunes have FM radio as well.

      • Amanda says:

Yeah my first generation Zune gets FM radio and thats one of the reasons I bought a Zune instead of an Ipod in the first place.
Still waiting for a release date for the Zune HD.

  3. Ian G. says:

I like how they tell us the release date has been confirmed….but don\’t actually give us the release date. Hmm.

^In reply to Scott Rogers’ post^

Clarified: Zune Generation 1 firmware update 1.000 has been able to receive FM radio.

  5. jskills says:

They messed up by saying FM radio…the Zune HD will have HD Radio
Take a look at the specs. They are available online.

  6. Evan Pischel says:

Actually if you look at even the first gen zunes they have been able to access the zune store and download the content straight to your zune idk how soon after release it was added but they have had wifi since release…. I think zune just wins!!

  7. Alnico says:

HD Zune is to have HD radio not your standard FM. That means clear reception of high quality sound. At least that’s how I understand it from Zune’s website.

  8. Ian G. says:

Hopefully it will support hdd’s(120gb) like previous zune. I’m tired of filling things up in a day(ipod touch).

  9. winston says:

Does anyone know if the new Zne HD is able to read ebooks? Thanks.

  10. seriously says:

Does anyone know how many gbs it will have? Because My 80gb Zune just broke and I don’t think I can wait until November 13th for this one to come out, but I don’t want to go buy a new one tomorrow and then spend what will most likely be a large amount of money on a new Zune later in like four months.
