inFamous vs Prototype: Xbox 360 and PS3

If your Dutch is good, then you might want to visit GameCloud.nl, as they have written a great article about inFamous and Prototype for the Xbox 360 and the Sony PS3. The article takes a close look at the history of each developer and the special powers in each game.

Prototype is being developed by Radical Entertainment and looks set for a June 9 launch in North America and June 12 in Europe. The game will be available on Microsoft’ Xbox 360 and Windows platform as well as on the Sony PS3.

Infamous is also a sandbox-style video game like Prototype, but will only be available on the Sony PlayStation 3, as Sony Computer Entertainment has developed it. Infamous is released in North America on May 26 and May 29 in Europe.

  1. Slippy Sloppy says:

    Infamous

    Pros:
    Detailed and vibrant city.
    Exhilarating missions.
    Well balanced distribution of powers.
    City evolves as you play.

    Cons:
    Terrible and stilted start.
    Lo-res graphics and jaggies.
    Disappointing final boss battle.

    Prototype

    Pros:
    Great weapons.
    Shape shifting is brilliantly implemented.
    Smooth 1080p graphics (360).
    Interesting story.

    Cons:
    Fairly dull city.
    Lack of city detail.
NPCs walk around the city in groups of clones.
    Battles can become very repetitive.

For me, so far Infamous is the winner but it’s still early days for Prototype.

  2. Tim says:

I agree Infamous is better, but i’m only halfway through Prototype.

  3. Ryan says:

I’ve played both and I’ve finished both and I have to say that Prototype blows Infamous out of the water.

    Infamous:
    Pros:
    -Love the Animeish cutscenes
-The controls are simple and easy to learn
    -The graphics are amazing
-Powers are varied and useful, granted they are restricted to Electrical ones

    Cons:
-The city isn’t big enough (Compare the two cities and Prototype’s is humongous comparitively)
-Getting around the city is Sloooooooow (I’m glad I played Infamous first or I would have gone nuts)
-Collision Detection is off a lot in the game… I’ve gone through some walls
    -The beginning starts off slow.
-The story is contrived and predictable

    Prototype

    Pros:
-Beautiful graphics (1080p) and the scaling is amazing… especially when you are hundreds of feet in the sky.
-Even though the city is huge, you hasve fun getting where you need to go… by running… or scaling buildings.. or gliding
-The missions are hectic and exciting… and you really feel you are accomplishing something when you beat a main story mission
-The powers are wide and varied, allowing for most playstyles… hit and run? Sure. Beatdown your opponent? Of course! Try to be stealthy? You can, yeah.

    Cons:
-The difficulty kind of hit and misses… one part of a mission will be cake and the next will have you pulling your hair out
-Too many side-quests (Which really aren’t) that forces you to do them to get the upper-tier powers (Which some max out at 2 million EP and some quests only give you 50-80K max… if you get a gold medal)

From my point of view I had a much more enjoyable experience with Prototype, because I had much more freedom in doing what I wanted.
