Palm Pre vs. iPhone 3G: The Price Battle
By: Peter Chubb | May 20, 2009 | Leave a CommentWe reported yesterday that we finally have the official release date for the Palm Pre, but we have yet to hear anything from Apple over the rumored new iPhone. We do not know a release date or what the price would be, maybe that has something to do with Apple not making the rumor official yet. For now, the competition for the Pre is the Apple iPhone 3G
The Palm Pre will be available on June 6, and will have a price of $199.99, that is after a $100 mail-in rebate on a two-year contract on Sprint. We always knew that the Pre was coming, but what we did not have was the price. Having this information has now made it easier for Cnet’s Crave to do a comparison on data plans and what the overall cost to the iPhone 3G and Pre customer will be.
There were many who thought that Sprint would offer the Palm Pre for $149, but the final figure is $199, that puts in on a level playing field with the 8GB Apple iPhone3G. You have to wonder if Sprint has missed a trick here, as a $149 price tag would have give the Pre the edge over the iPhone.
