There have been a number of Hybrids on our streets, but the 2010 Toyota Prius is the first to offer 50 miles to the gallon. This is now the third-generation Prius hybrid vehicle, and it certainly has some big shoes to fill.
It is no secret that the auto industry is facing some of its darkest times, but it is hoped that the news of the 2010 Toyota Prius will help to drive those sales upwards. NewOSY reports that the original Prius was launched more than ten years ago, and this third-generation model has a number of breakthrough advances, which certainly makes it a different beast.
I am all for Hybrid technology, but I have often wondered why automakers choose gasoline over clean diesel. There are a number of clean diesel cars that can offer more than 50 miles per gallon, so why not just make clean diesel hybrids. If this happened, then we could see vehicles average over 70 miles per gallon.

I, too, wondered why not clean diesel and hybrid together, until I realized that each adds several thousands of dollars to vehicle cost. Eventually, with peak oil, fuel costs will be so high that the combination will make economic sense, but not yet.
