GM Dealers: More closing letters on way
By: Peter Chubb | May 20, 2009 | Leave a CommentWe have known for a while now that General Motors (NYSE:GM) plans to shut a number of dealers, but GM have now issued two more rounds of letters to dealerships, which they should receive by June 9. GM has yet to offer any more information on this.
Bennington Banner has been talking to Robert Nemer, owner of Nemer Chevrolet; he said that he would continue to sell new GM vehicles, well for now anyway. He said that there is so much secrecy going on; most of what he and other dealerships learn is through the media.
GM had originally announced that they were to close 1,100, but we mentioned in a post this morning that the number has now increased to almost 3,000. This is all part of General Motors plan to try and restructure its business, and the closing of dealerships selling Buicks, Cadillac’s, Chevrolets, GMCs and Pontiacs is just the start.
