New iPhone or June 6, 2009 for Palm Pre?

Following the official confirmation that the Palm pre will release on June 6 2009, which is a Saturday, you have to ask if you will rush out and get hold of the much-hyped handset, or will you wait two days to see if Apple will be launching a new iPhone.

You have to wonder if Palm and Sprint have thought this release date through, the Pre is expected to save Palm, so why launch it on June 6, when Apple could throw a spanner in the works and decide to tell the world at WWDC that the third generation iPhone will be coming.

Let us not get ahead of ourselves here though, we have known for a while that the Pre is coming and has taken 6 months to reach a release date. If Apple did announce a new iPhone model, then we would assume that this too would take a few months until it is released. That would give the Palm Pre a huge head start in the smartphone war.
