The new Apple iPhone 3.0 has yet another new rumored featured, background apps support. This will allow users to select two applications, which can run in the background. Daring Fireball does note that this is only a rumor at this moment.
It is thought that developers would apply for permission to run the app in the background, and that Apple would allow or refuse them depending on how much resources they need to run in the background, as well as how it behaves with the stability of its operating system.
Daring Fireball has said that they do not normally give these rumors merit, but a similar source had told them the same thing back in January during Macworld Expo. One thing we know that stops background apps support at the moment is the iPhones 128MB memory, but it is rumored that the new iPhone will have 256MB, which should be enough for this new feature.
