GM, Chrysler News: Dealerships closing list

General Motors (GM) and Chrysler LLC have now issued their closing list of dealerships, and will total 3,200. General Motors spokesman, Tom Wilkinson said that these dealerships will be notified, and that no list would be made public.

The Frederick News Post Online said that GM is planning to consolidate 2,400 dealerships nationwide. Spokeswoman for Chrysler, Kathy Graham has said that they plan to cut 789 dealers, which works out to be 25 percent of its retails sites. A few of those have now been made public, such as Don Phillips Jeep and Fitzgerald Auto Mall.

Phillips has said that the closing of these dealerships will eventually create a drop in revenue for the economy. Phillips also added that Chrysler does not have the power to close these dealerships, which is something that the bankruptcy court will have to look in to.

    jerry,

smaller gas tanks do not lead to better fuel efficient cars.the siaze of the vehicle’s gas tank cannot have anything to do with how effeciently the engine works. that would be like saying, im a skinny person so i cannot eat as much as a fat person (no disrespect intended) i was just watching a commercial last night,. the NEW kia spectra, which lists somewhere around 14,500$ has an EPA rated consumption of 23/30 miles per gallon. if that is truely what is most important, why dont you see people buying the 1984 dodge duster’s and horizons and omni’s? i had one. that car got 40 mile to a gallon and 48 sometimes on a long trip. style is not there in the foreign cars. they are focusing on the effeciency so much that the cars arent providing any usefulness. have you ever tried to fit a set of golf clubs into a kia? ( it sucks).that having been said,. the 2010 camaro get’s a little bit better gas mileage,. (25/32 rated.) it has 304 horsepower out of a v6 and it looks nice too. i would personally be ashamed of myself pulling up to a wedding in a kia spectra. it doesnt command a great deal of respect. like i said, the 2010 camaro,. it cost around 24,000 for a v6 and it can still move and get good gas milage. i just see this as a simple case of,. people want to see cheap. cheap cheap cheap. and they want to see that so much that they are willing to sacrifice actual performance. ( no,. not hotrod performance, or pulling your wheels off the ground as you go mach 10)but actual performance. If I am driving a car, and some sort of road anomolies are in my path, i want to trust my car to get me the hell out of the way. i just dont seee that as being a foreign car.

I know it will be an unpopular thing to say, but OBAMA will ruin the car business in this country. Hopefully, it won’t be for good.
He is installing his cronnies in all the top positions to do what he says. He is giving the UAW the reins. It is a recipe for disaster. When it needs to get bailed out again, and it will, hopefully, the UAW will be a nightmare of the past. Sorry guys, you got greedy, just like many others in this country, and you are now being rewarded for it, only thing is, you don’t know a thing about making the right decisions. You’ll have it on the auction block very quickly.
Unlike all the other residents of Vermont, I celebrate when I hear of a union loosing out. That puts the company in a position to sell more goods and services and with skill, allow them to survive. With OBAMA ruin…running things, it is the complete opposite. Like any other facist, he can’t/won’t listen to critics. We are all doomed if he isn’t tossed out. Pray he doesn’t move on the 2nd Amendment in the meantime.
