Netflix News: new movie-rating system

Netflix has been making some changes to its website and have improved its Web site’s user-generated movie-ratings system; they have changed how suggestions and rankings are factored into the predictions of how much a user will like a particular title.

Video Business explains that the ratings improvements will be mostly used in the “Movies You’ll Love” section of its website. Over the coming months, Netflix will be testing how its subscribers on their personalized websites can use this new rating system.

For those members who rate a movie, they will now get better guidance on how many stars they are likely to give a movie that they have not yet seen. For those users who submit suggests that helps to improve the Cinematch movie-ratings system are paid cash, this totals $50,000 a year. There is also a grand prize fund of $1 million.
