Windows 7’s XP Mode: Hands-on

One of the most hyped features on Windows 7 has to be XP Mode, which has been designed to integrate XP with the new Windows 7 operating system. This new feature allows you to run XP application directly inside Windows 7.

XP Mode is aimed at small business users who wish to run XP applications, but also wish to upgrade to Windows 7. For sure, business users will welcome this feature but for consumers, the problems will outweigh the benefits.

Reuters have taken a closer look at XP Mode, to see what all the hype is about. The first news is not good; it seems as if your PC might not be able to handle Windows XP Mode, even if you have a new machine. The reason for this is that the new feature requires your CPU to be capable of hardware virtualization, using either AMD-V for AMD chips or Intel Virtualization Technology (VT) for Intel chips.

If you think that your multicore PC is up to the job, then you had better think again.
