Verizon Wireless LTE and AT&T HSPA Evolution
By: Alan Ng | May 12, 2009 | Leave a CommentVerizon Wireless CTO Tony Melone has recently said that the company should aim to move to nationwide LTE as soon as possible. He said it’s for ‘their best interests’ and hopes the move will cut the pricing of mobile data services in the future.
As reported from Unstrung, Melone was speaking at the Ericsson AB annual capital markets day and he had this to say:
“It is in best interest to blanket the country with LTE as soon as possible. Pricing is inhibiting the growth of this market. Quite frankly, this is likely to change even before LTE.”
If the move does go ahead in the future, Verizon Wireless will be the first US operator to go commerical with LTE. It will be interesting to see what AT&T make of the news.
