AMD gains on Intel in the first quarter
By: Alan Ng | May 12, 2009 | Leave a CommentIt’s been revealed that Advanced Micro Devices are slowly gaining momentum over rivals Intel as they performed well in the first quarter of 2009 according to the latest figures from market researchers IDC.
In this Cnet report, IDC revealed that AMD gained on Intel in the first quarter by managing a 4.6 percent increase. Intel on the other hand, garnered a 77.3 percent unit market share, which is a loss of 4.7 percent.
Shane Rau from IDC had this to say on the news:
“The PC processor market continued to reflect significant decline in end demand for most of 1Q09.However, some inventory replenishment by (PC makers) at the end of the quarter helped to slow the decline and bring the quarter in at a level only slightly worse than typical seasonal decline.”
Looks like Intel will have to step it up, now that AMD are trying to catch them up. Full story in the link above.
