Palm Pre release in Canada goes to Bell Mobility

Palm have announced that Bell Mobility, Canada’s second largest carrier will launch the Pre smartphone in the second half of this year. Bell Mobility is the first carrier outside the US, to carry the Pre. The Palm Pre will be available on Sprint in the U.S.

The Guardian reports that UBS analyst Maynard Um said that this deal is good for Palm investors, well those who had been worried over the dearth of carrier distribution deals for the new Pre smartphone.

Palm seems to be doing what Nintendo did with the Wii, by controlling the amount of units available, this will make the device more desirable. Still not certain how well the Palm Pre will sell, as a number of people are holding out on the new Apple iPhone.

  1. Bill McMinn says:

Any death of carrier distribution deals may not be good for cell phone carriers but are good for consumers. Because of the distribution deal with Bell Mobility, the Palm Pre will not be available in Western Canada.
