Amazon’s New Kindle DX: larger 9.7-inch widescreen
By: Peter Chubb | May 7, 2009 | Leave a CommentWhenever a company launches a new model of a successful device it is always slimmer or smaller, but Amazon has gone the opposite way with its new Kindle DX. This newer device comes with the larger 9.7-inch widescreen, which the online store giant hopes will help to lure in newspaper readers and college students.
Amazon chief executive Jeff Bezos said that newspapers used to be an “absolute bestseller” on previous models. Amazon hopes that the larger 9.7-inch screen will make the Kindle DX that more appealing.
The Washington Post explains that the Kindle DX is just like its predecessor, it will be able to wirelessly download books or periodicals from Amazon’s online store. The content will be then displayed in shades of gray, sorry no color yet. The new device is a bit more expensive, $489; this is compared to $360 for the current model.
