Microsoft Job Cuts: News of 3000 lay offs

Microsoft have said today in a statement that they have laid off 3,000 employees in its U.S and Worldwide locations. The move comes as part as Microsoft’s cost-cutting initiative and follows Microsoft’s previous announcement in January that they would be cutting 5,000 jobs.

As reported by InformationWeek, Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer said in an email to employees:

“This is difficult news to share, Because our success at Microsoft has always been the direct result of the talent, hard work, and commitment of our people, eliminating positions is hard.”

Even more worrying for current Microsoft employees, Ballmer stated that if the current economic conditions fail to improve, more jobs could be cut in the future.

He stated: “As we move forward, we will continue to closely monitor the impact of the economic downturn on the company and if necessary, take further actions on our cost structure including additional job cuts,”
