Sony PSP Go!: Hardware details and release date

We’ve heard all sorts of PSP rumours lately, relating to names, hardware changes and features. Today, we have the strongest indictation yet that new PSP hardware is on the way, thanks to 1up.

According to them, the new PSP model will not be named the PSP-4000 as some sources thought. Instead it will be called the PSP Go! and feature flash memory in favour of a UMD drive.

The system will be released in Japan first in September, with a US release coming in early October or November. 1up also state that two SKUs will be available, either a 8GB or 16GB flash memory package.

As for further hardware details, the design is set to include that ’sliding-screen’ that has been heavily rumoured. The sliding feature will slide up to reveal the PSP’s controls. 1up say that there will be no second analogue stick, instead Sony will favour the original control scheme.

As the new hardware will feature flash memory, you can expect a lot of downloadable games to be made available right from launch. One of the premier launch titles is expected to be Gran Turismo Mobile.

So there we have it, some very exciting news for all PSP fans. Expect Sony to unveil the new system at this years E3 event.
