Palm Pre: Hard to predict demand for smartphone

With all the talk about the Palm Pre lately and when it will be released, many believe that its success will have a lot more significance to Palm and could determine the future of the company.

As reported from BusinessWeek, many analysts are predicting that the Palm Pre will go on to make a healthy profit from the units they sell. Their sources estimate that the Palm Pre will cost around $138 per unit to build. We are still unaware of the final price the Pre will retail for, but BW reckons it will be around the $200 mark, after a $100 subsidy.

BW also states that Palm may opt to release the Palm Pre before the announcement of Apple’s new iPhone is revealed.

  1. Sprint just started dropping info packets at our office this week featuring the palm pre. Very sweet little phone, might even make me drop my Blackberry.
