Facebook, the Internet social media company has been talking about its plans to allow outside developers access to core parts of its website. Facebook have said that this will help to build new services to its website.
Reuters has been speaking to someone familiar with the situation, and said that the plan is expected to be announced some time on Monday. These new capabilities would allow third-party developers to build services that access content uploaded by Facebook users; this includes pictures and videos with the users’ permission.
Facebook does not plan to charge for this service. Facebook will be hosting an event for developers today at its Palo Alto, California headquarters. The social networking site currently has more than 200 million active users worldwide.
